This fall sees the debut of a brand new Avengers line up, and keeping in line with the spirit of the weekend, it’s steeped in patriotism.
The new series from Al Ewing and artist Paco Medina, who are currently working on the New Avengers books, will be titled U.S. Avengers and features the team of the same name focusing on defending the homeland whilst all those other commie Avengers teams deal with the rest of the world.
The team is set to be led by Sunspot aka Roberto Da Costa, who is ironically Brazillian. He will then be supported by Cannonball, Squirrel Girl, Pod, Red Hulk, a new Iron Patriot in the form of Dr. Toni Ho, and Danielle Cage, daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones who has traveled from the future as that eras Captain America.
As part of the announcement made on The Washington Post, Ewing revealed:
“We wanted a couple of members that’d speak to the U.S. in the title — hence super-scientist and supporting player Dr. Toni Ho stepping up to the main team as the new Iron Patriot, and General Ross waiting in the wings as the Red Hulk,’ He then went on to elaborate on the inclusion of the new Captain America, explaining that she is from ‘about thirty years in the future, who’ll be joining us for at least the first arc, as an enemy from her time comes to ours to stir up trouble.”
He also hinted that there may be some conflict amongst the team, revealing:
“It’s one thing [for the Red Hulk to] take orders from Steve Rogers/Captain America, it’s another to take them from Roberto Da Costa, a man decades his junior who he doesn’t know. There may be friction.”
U.S. Avengers will hit shelves later in the year.
