Disney acquired an entire catalogue of popular franchises when they bought 20th Century Fox. One of these franchises, Ice Age, had several projects released for Disney Plus under the Disney banner – though it looks like Ice Age 6 is next in the works.
Of course, one of Disney’s recent Ice Age projects included a stand-alone film titled The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. For this new project, however, it looks like it will be a proper sixth film in the main series – one that seems to include the franchise’s original cast.
Original Ice Age actor John Leguizamo, who played Sid the Sloth throughout the film series, revealed as much while speaking on NPR‘s quiz show “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” Here’s what he shared on that front, albeit without many details:
“I’m so happy to hear that. We’re about to do Ice Age 6.”
Due to the fact that Disney has yet to announce the project themselves, it seems as though Ice Age 6 is still in its very early stages. However, knowing that Leguizamo is involved seems to suggest that the original cast will be returning for this installment.
For the recent Disney Plus streaming service spin-off film revolving around Buck Wild, the only returning actor was Simon Pegg. As such, fans would no doubt be pleased to see Leguizamo and his co-stars return for yet another proper Ice Age sequel. The last film featuring the group, Ice Age: Collision Course, was released nearly a decade ago in 2016.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Ice Age 6 as we have them. For now, it’s quite a surprise to see the film in development. Especially with so much time having passed since the last proper Ice Age film. Hopefully more details will be released soon, especially now that the cat is out of the bag.
