Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has made a number of hits throughout his career. One of these hits, split into two films, is none other than Kill Bill. Many fans have wanted a “third” film over the years, however, and now Quentin Tarantino has confirmed that “Kill Bill 3” will not happen.
Tarantino discussed the possibility of a third Kill Bill while speaking with Bill Maher on his Club Random Podcast. The topic of Kill Bill was kept quite short, however, with Tarantino swiftly killing any hopes for a new installment of the story.
The two brought up Tarantino’s action epic starring Uma Thurman after Tarantino discussed none other than the Toy Story series. He believed the third Toy Story was a perfect ending, and as such, he feels the same way about Kill Bill.
Maher confirmed this by asking if that’s why Quentin Tarantino chose not to make another Kill Bill, and he had this to say:
“Yeah, yes, yeah… No, I did it, I killed Bill.”
The two films, Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2, revolve around Uma Thurman’s character “The Bride.” She goes on quite the journey after awakening from a coma, one which leads her to avenge herself by killing off a group of assassins and their leader: Bill. By the end of the story, she is reunited with her daughter, something which fans feel could pave the way for a new movie.
Essentially, one of the assassins that The Bride kills has a daughter of her own. After killing her mother in front of her, The Bride tells the daughter this:
“It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that I’m sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin’. When you grow up, if you still feel raw about it, I’ll be waiting.”
While this does seem like a good setup for a new movie, Tarantino obviously disagrees. As such, fans will have to find solace in the fact that The Bride, at the very least, does get to kill Bill and reunite with her daughter.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Quentin Tarantino updates as we have them. It seems clear that Kill Bill 3 isn’t currently on the table, but Tarantino has been hard at work with developing his tenth and, if he has his way, final film. Hopefully we’ll have details on that front soon.
