Disney has delivered a wide variety of live-action adaptations of their iconic properties in recent years. One upcoming adaptation, Snow White, has had its fair share of production troubles, however. Now the first official trailer for Snow White has been released – and it’s already received more than 1 million dislikes on YouTube.
The dislikes received by the newly-released Snow White trailer merely add fuel to the fire that has been burning around this particular movie. Of course, the dislikes themselves no doubt come from the controversy that has followed this movie since the very beginning.
For example, star Rachel Zegler has made a number of comments that fans have felt were dishonest to the brand or upsetting in other ways. Issues have come up with other cast members of the film, particularly those playing the seven dwarfs, as they are actors without dwarfism.
Many of the 50,000 comments on the trailer, which you can see shared from YouTube below, reflect these issues from viewers. Many believe that the film is a waste of money, while others are simply asking Disney to cancel the production altogether. Here’s the trailer:
It’s certainly an interesting take on the source material. Of course, while it’s too early to see how the film will actually perform upon being released, it’s worth noting that Disney has had its fair share of flops over the last few years. As such, we could see it follow in the footsteps of those underperformances. Or, on the other side of the coin, Disney has still had plenty of successes lately, too. This could very well be one of those as well.
Marc Webb directed Snow White from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. The film stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Other cast members include Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, Dujonna Gift, Martin Klebba, and Colin Michael Carmichael. Other details are expected to be unraveled as we approach the film’s release date.
Snow White is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White as we have them. It’ll be interesting to see how its initial release is received, especially with the controversy and divisiveness the film has faced so far.
