Apple TV Plus has been competing with other major streaming services like Netflix, Max, and Disney Plus. They’ve crafted their own variety of Apple TV Plus originals, some of which have become quite popular, and unfortunately one of them is revealed to have been cancelled.
As shared in a new report, this particular series will not be receiving a third season on the platform. This news is no doubt bound to upset fans of the drama series which was formerly successful enough to be renewed for a second season not long after its initial premiere.
TVLine says that the canceled Apple TV Plus series is actually part of several other cancellations made by the platform. While Apple TV Plus has chosen to renew other shows including the Godzilla vehicle Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, it seems as though this particular drama wasn’t meant to make the cut.
The Big Door Prize is the name of the series which stars Chris O’Dowd, Gabrielle Dennis, Damon Gupton, and Josh Segarra. It’s based on the novel of the same name by M. O. Walsh.
For those unfamiliar, the actual plot of the series is quite interesting, and one might even make comparisons to such eerie sci-fi properties as The Twilight Zone to describe it. The story begins in the quiet town of Deerfield where a surprise device appears at a general store.
The device reveals the “Life Potential” of any citizen that uses it, and it begins to change the lives of all those in the town as they try to pursue their dreams. It’s an interesting concept, and it’s unfortunate that it only had two seasons to be explored.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Apple TV Plus and their originals as we have them. For now, subscribers can check out the two seasons of The Big Door Prize for themselves on the streaming service.
