One of the most exciting acquisitions with Disney’s new ownership of 20th Century Fox has been the X-Men brand. Fans have been eagerly waiting to see how the fan-favorite superhero team will be utilized in the MCU. Now, with an official X-Men movie on the way, we’ll soon find out. Though a director for the film has yet to be announced, it’s been reported that Jordan Peele has actually had talks to direct a X-Men movie for the MCU.
Unfortunately, as shared in the report from One Take News, the talks apparently didn’t work out. It was unclear why exactly the talks didn’t work out, and the publication adds “that this meeting was a long time ago.” Jordan Peele would have certainly been a good pick for a X-Men movie, so it’s unknown why exactly the talks fell through.
The outlet does remind that Michael Lesslie was tapped by Marvel Studios to write the screenplay for their X-Men movie, so they suggest that Peele would’ve wanted to write his own script and that’s why he didn’t take on the project. After all, Peele has written all of his previous directorial efforts, and it’s that extra level of effort that really helps Peele’s vision shine through his work.
As such, it’s possible that Jordan Peele could have the opportunity to work on a completely different project for Marvel – perhaps one that he could write as well as direct. Ultimately, it’s interesting to know that he is allegedly talking with the studio, and we’ll have to see if anything more comes from it.
In the meantime, that does also mean we’ll have to see who will have the opportunity to direct the X-Men movie for Marvel Studios. If they’re reaching out to filmmakers like Peele, however, then it’s sure to be a big name that will get fans excited. Hopefully more details will be released soon.
