The Netflix series Baby Reindeer has been making all sorts of headlines since its debut on Netflix. Now, however, Baby Reindeer is once again the topic of conversation now that one of its stars in Jessica Gunning has publicly come out as gay.
The Netflix series was created by Richard Gadd who also stars in the series as a fictionalized version of himself. However, he alleges that the basis of the series was all based on events that he personally experienced. This includes a stalker, named Martha in the series, who was played by Jessica Gunning.
Interestingly, however, one of these stars has now publicly come out as gay. This was revealed in an interview with Josh Rein on his podcast Reign via DailyMail. The reveal was shared just in time for Pride Month 2024.
Here’s what was shared by Baby Reindeer actress Jessica Gunning and how she actually happens to be gay:
“I came out in November 2022. And that was a mega, mega thing for me because I for so long…I am surrounded by gays, like all my friends are gay, so it wasn’t that I was repressing anything, it was just that I didn’t think that I could be.
“I still can’t articulate it in the best way.”
She continued to explain that’s when she discovered herself as being gay:
“But I realised I was a big, old gay. I was like, ‘That’s what it’s been, that’s what it is.’ And that was like a massive moment where everything kind of clicked and I made sense of myself then.
“Because for so long I’d thought, ‘I know I’m a bigger woman,’ and I thought that maybe it was to do with my size that I felt a bit like almost alien or like I was tagging along.
“But as soon as I realised, I was like ‘No, it’s that,’ and that was like the most liberating thing.”
She further explained how great it’s been for her to come out and be herself, and that she’s had so much support from her friends and family as a result. For Jessica Gunning, she’s quite happy about being gay – especially publicly confirming it following the success of Baby Reindeer.
