It’s not surprising to see viewers are once again talking about a new Nicolas Cage performance. However, with this particular film being completely set in the darkest corners of the horror genre, it seems as though Nicolas Cage is being praised for just how absolutely disturbing his character is.
Likewise, fans are praising the entirety of the film which also stars Maika Monroe. From director Osgood Perkins, who previously helmed The Blackcoat’s Daughter as well as Gretel & Hansel, it looks like this film is striking even more of a nerve with audiences. Especially if the below reactions, which call the film both “scary” and “sick,” are anything to go by.
The reactions were shared by viewers who saw the film during a surprise screening at the Beyond Fest film festival in Los Angeles. The screening occurred on May 31 and it looks like viewers have been talking about the movie ever since.
Here are the reactions shared by viewers of Osgood Perkins’ new horror movie with Nicolas Cage, titled Longlegs, on social media:

Osgood Perkins’ #Longlegs is a profoundly unsettling, deeply creepy film that will crawl and linger in your mind for days. Incredible performances from Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage and Alicia Witt. And the best, most disturbing horror film of the year. More soon! @neonrated -Mike M pic.twitter.com/fwv1J0c7bs

It’s as if #Longlegs was forged in Hell by Satan, who brought it as an artifact into our world as a gift. Osgood Perkins’ film is the real fucking shit. Mischievous, steadied tension build, SCARY & SICK AF. Maika Monroe is terrific. Nicolas Cage is in pure weirdo mode. pic.twitter.com/ilz5S7aSuA

I was so lucky to see #Longlegs, and no exaggeration: it could be the best horror film of ‘24. Oz Perkins can really get under my skin; this is his masterpiece. Monroe gives a fabulously unique lead performance, and Cage? NIGHTMARISH. Maybe the scariest 1st 10 mins, ever. pic.twitter.com/ImMEDDxGXi

It looks like those who’ve seen the film at the Beyond Fest film festival are in agreement that Longlegs is “profoundly unsettling,” a “deeply creepy film” and one that offers actor Nicolas Cage “in pure weirdo mode.”
Hopefully mainstream audiences feel the same way once the film is released in theaters on July 12, 2024. By the sound of these responses, the cast and crew certainly put their hearts into this film. Of course, fans already seem to feel that way based on the intense and terrifying trailers for the movie that have been released so far.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Longlegs and the work of the film’s cast including stars Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe as we have them. For now, it looks like director Osgood Perkins has another hit on his hands.
