The Venom movie franchise, led by Tom Hardy, has maintained its spot at the top of Sony’s cinematic universe of Spider-Man characters. However, it looks like the Venom series will be coming to an end with Venom 3.
Sony confirmed as much via Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman when he spoke in a recent interview about their upcoming slate of films. Interestingly, it does make sense, considering the film’s subtitle has been revealed to be Venom: The Last Dance. Now it really does seem to be the last.
Here’s what Rothman had to share about the Venom finale to Deadline:
“The third and last Venom, is going to be huge.”
Obviously it’s difficult to determine what could be so “huge” about the highly-anticipated film. However, given that one of the last appearances we’ve had from Tom Hardy’s character was in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it could very well be as huge as he suggests. Of course, details aren’t available at this time for the film’s plot, but one could certainly hope that it further connects Hardy’s Venom with the MCU.
If not, fans have their own theories, which could include a popular character from the comics. Though unconfirmed at this time, fans have a feeling that the green symbiote Lasher could be making an appearance. This has yet to be announced, but it would make sense given that Venom has already faced off against other symbiotes that include Riot and Carnage.
Ultimately, however, we’ll just have to see what happens when this third film hits theaters. For now, however, it seems as though this will be our last Venom movie.
The new sequel is currently expected to hit theaters on October 25, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Venom 3 and Sony’s other movies featuring Spider-Man characters as we have them. Hopefully there will be more details soon regarding the highly-anticipated sequel, titled Venom: The Last Dance, in the near future.
