    Controversial And Critically Panned Movie Is Dominating Max

    Many of the films that end up trending on Max do so for a good reason. The movies are often popular with audiences or cult classics that deserve a little love. One film now trending on Max internationally, however, is surprising because it’s a controversial and critically panned movie.

    Of course, it might not be too surprising to see the film doing well on the service. It’s actually a sequel to a film that happens to be the aforementioned type of popular cult classic that probably should be trending instead. But given that this is a sequel, something fans have requested for years now, it seems like subscribers are giving it their best shot.

    As of this writing, the panned sequel has actually become the number 2 film on the service. At the same time, however, it currently holds a 2.1/10 rating on IMDb. It goes without saying, then, that this probably isn’t the start of any kind of reevaluation. Rather, subscribers are learning for themselves that this is a sequel that isn’t what they were hoping for.

    The film, Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate, is a sequel to the hit 2010 animated movie Megamind. However, it doesn’t feature the return of the original’s cast which included Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, David Cross, and Brad Pitt. Additionally, the film mostly serves as a launchpad for an animated series titled Megamind Rules!.

    It’s worth noting that while Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate is currently dominating Max, the movie is available in the United States on Peacock along with Megamind Rules!, both of which came as a surprise to fans. Of course, given the change in direction and lack of original cast members, it seems as though many fans are quite unhappy with the final product.
