One of the horror genre’s most well-known subgenres includes the “slasher genre.” Slashers have been a staple of the genre for decades, especially following the release of hits that included Halloween and Friday the 13th. In A Violent Nature is taking notes from its slasher predecessors, and audience members have reacted so strongly during a screening that one individual vomited as a result.
Chris Nash both wrote and directed the film which has been frequently described as an “ambient slasher.” Though many fans would no doubt draw comparisons to the likes of the aforementioned classic Friday the 13th and its numerous sequels, this particular movie is quite different. Specifically because it is told from the perspective of its antagonist.
In A Violent Nature is rather experimental, then, and as mentioned – one viewer happened to vomit as a result of the movie. This reaction appears to have occurred during a screening of the horror movie at the Chicago Critics Film Fest.
As shared in a tweet via @FilmUpdates featured below which includes audio of the audience during a graphic kill scene:
“Audience reacting to a kill from ‘IN A VIOLENT NATURE’ during the Chicago Critics Film Fest screening of the film. An audience member also vomited during the screening,” the account adds.

The synopsis for the film has been released as follows:
“When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year-old crime, his body is resurrected and becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back – along with anyone in his way.”
Those interested will be able to see In a Violent Nature when it hits theaters on May 31, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the upcoming horror film as we have them. For now, these reactions are certainly interesting, and it’ll be similarly interesting to see how normal viewers will react.
