The Fast & Furious movie franchise seemed to never have an official end in sight. Now, however, the final film – Fast XI – is being slated for a release in 2026. This was confirmed by director Louis Leterrier.
As shared at a panel at CCXP MX, which was moderated by Collider’s Steve Weintraub, shared that it’s “happening very, very soon.” Apparently, however, Leterrier will be directing another project just prior to his upcoming work on Fast XI.
Here’s what Leterrier shared:
“It’s happening. It’s happening very, very soon. I’m able to shoot a little horror movie this summer . I’m finishing my horror movie on September 15th, and I start Fast on September 16th.”
In case anyone was confused as to whether or not he meant the beginning pre-production or filming, Leterrier confirmed that it’s when the film will begin shooting. Here’s what else he shared regarding its 2026 release date:
“It’s filming early next year, and it’s coming out in 2026, which will be exactly to the day, 25 years since the first one came out.”
However, Universal has yet to confirm the release date. Nevertheless, unless any major delays occur, Leterrier is confident that this is the plan. He also revealed that the film will go back to the franchise’s roots with a setting in Los Angeles much like the original film:
“It’s exactly that. That’s what we wanna do. We wanna bring it back home, and still have a great big journey to tell.”
It sounds as though Fast XI will be a film franchise fans won’t want to miss in 2026. Of course, we’ll have to see how these plans pan out once production actually begins.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Fast XI and the career of Louis Leterrier as we have them. In the meantime, it’ll be very exciting to see what happens with the conclusion of the Fast & Furious franchise when it comes in 2026.
