Author Stephen King‘s writings have sparked some very successful adaptations which, in turn, have sparked some very successful franchises. Now a remake of one such Stephen King property is available to stream on Hulu – where it’s currently dominating the platform’s charts. Additionally, however, viewers are calling it “one of the worst movies ever made.”
It seems as though this particular Stephen King adaptation has strayed just a little too far from its source material. Of course, when considering King’s original short story is a mere 10,000 words, it can be quite surprising to know that this film is the eleventh entry in its respective franchise.
The film, which was first released in 2020, went under the radar for many horror fans given the circumstances at the time. Now that it’s more accessible and available to stream on Hulu, however, fans are giving the movie a chance. And, as you can see below, they aren’t happy.
The film, written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, is aptly-titled Children of the Corn, the same name as King’s short story and its original 1984 feature film adaptation. However, the details of the film have been largely changed, with enough differences in its story to consider it a wholly new take.
As mentioned, however, this new take didn’t mesh well with most viewers. Here are some of the negative responses shared by Stephen King fans on X after viewing the eleventh Children of the Corn film on Hulu:
The new Children of the Corn on Hulu is one of the worst movies ever made… pic.twitter.com/u9TLcZmrv0

Other viewers were somewhat more tolerant of the film, though it’s clear that it’s not the major franchise reboot that any studio would no doubt hope for. Here are some of their responses:

#Hulu Children of The Corn (2020) It could’ve been better.

Overall, it’s quite astonishing that the Children of the Corn franchise has come this far. Especially given the short length of King’s original short story. It goes to show that he invented a truly great idea, one that’s opened itself to many different interpretations and will no doubt continue to do so as Hollywood inevitably returns to this brand sooner or later.
