One of the most iconic horror films of all-time, Rosemary’s Baby, is officially set to get the prequel treatment. Better yet, fans can expect to be able to view the film as soon as this Halloween. The new prequel, titled Apartment 7A, will be headed straight to Paramount Plus.
Natalie Erika James directed the film which stars Julia Garner. Additionally, as shared in a new report, the plot synopsis for the film reveals that it will take place in 1965. This would place the film’s events not long before the events of Rosemary’s Baby, and furthermore, reveal what happened in Rosemary Woodhouse’s New York City apartment before she moved in.
Here’s the synopsis for Apartment 7A that Deadline was able to share for the Paramount Plus film:
“When a struggling young dancer (Garner) suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected older couple promises her a shot at fame. Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story prior to Roman Polanski’s horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary moved in.”
Jeff Grossman, EVP Programming at Paramount Plus, added the following statement:
“Apartment 7A is the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season,” said Grossman. “Director Natalie Erika James and the prodigious creative team have crafted a chilling and clever new entry into the genre.”
It’s certainly exciting to see a direct prequel to one of horror’s most iconic films. Hopefully we’ll have more information soon as we approach the Halloween season. An official date has yet to be released, but fans can be certain that it will be a great addition to Paramount Plus during the spookiest time of the year.
In addition to Julia Garner, the cast of the film also includes Dianne Wiest, Jim Sturgess, and Kevin McNally. Other cast members include Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
