Stephen King has created many of the greatest horror stories known in the genre. He’s also established himself as someone that helps other projects break into the spotlight. Now fans can see one such horror project praised by Stephen King that’s currently streaming on Netflix.
However, as the author of such classics as The Shining and ‘Salem’s Lot warns, this is not a film to be watched “alone.” As he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, he calls the film “visceral horror to rival ALIEN and early Cronenberg.”
Obviously this is high praise. After all, Alien happens to be one of the greatest horror films of all time. The film’s story progresses as a spaceship crew uncovers an alien lifeform and its horrifying lifecycle. A similar mystery is likewise uncovered throughout the runtime of this particular horror movie on Netflix, and as Stephen King also states, it is quite similar to early David Cronenberg as well.
Here’s the tweet shared by King which appropriately begins with the title of the film:
THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE: Visceral horror to rival ALIEN and early Cronenberg. Watch it, but not alone.

André Øvredal directed the hit horror film, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, which was initially released in 2016. The cast includes Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch that play a father-and-son pair of coroners. An unidentified body is brought into their business, and as they begin to examine the corpse, they are continually thrown into an ever-expanding world of the supernatural. It’s no surprise that King would recommend it – or suggest that viewers don’t watch it by themselves.
Though many horror fans praise The Autopsy of Jane Doe, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have the film mentioned to audiences yet again. Especially at a time when it can be easily viewed on Netflix, and therefore many new viewers are no doubt going to be stunned and shocked by the film for the first time.
