The Halloween franchise will be headed into new territory with a brand-new television series. It will be the first time that the Halloween brand makes its way to the small screen, and furthermore, it’s now been revealed that the series will be a “creative reset.”
Of course, given the outcome of Halloween Ends, that might not be surprising. The 2022 endeavor killed off Michael Myers, putting an end to Blumhouse’s trilogy of sequels, and setting the stage for a new reboot to take over. Now this is exactly what’s happening, albeit with a television series, as confirmed by Miramax head Marc Helwig.
Miramax recently acquired the television rights to the Halloween franchise. Now, while working with Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films, Miramax will be able to develop and co-produce the franchise’s first series. As shared via Deadline, Helwig was able to reveal the following about the series:
“The foundation of it is the original film, the John Carpenter movie, the characters of that film, and perhaps a group of characters that we haven’t really focused on that much in recent film versions or even in a number of them,” Helwig teases.
“It’s a creative reset completely and going back to the original film, as opposed to spinning out of any of the more recent film adaptations.”
He also shared that the series is a “big priority” and it appears to be nearing production:
“We’re on a fast track, it’s a big priority for us. We’ve had lots of exciting conversations in recent months with a number of really talented people, and I think we’ll have a pretty good idea of what we’re going to be doing very soon. We’re hoping to lock down the creative team very soon.”
In addition to Miramax and Trancas working on the Halloween series together, they also hold the film rights, which could allow this new story to move from both the big and small screen. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
