1994’s The Crow starring Brandon Lee left an unprecedented mark in the world of cinema – and a new reboot of the iconic film is set to return to the big screen. This time the movie will star Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven and the first look has finally been revealed.
In addition to Bill Skarsgård in the new movie are FKA Twigs as Shelly Webster, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger. Their collective talent is set to elevate the emotional power and mythology of the original movie. Rupert Sanders, known for his work in Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell, is directing the reboot.
Sanders, when discussing his version, said:
“I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.’” That image captures the beginning of his transformation into the Crow. “It’s the moment we realize bad things are coming.”
As fans can see from the first look images that were released today (courtesy of Vanity Fair) the new film will be much different than the 1994 version, as we see the images showcase a heavily tattooed Skarsgård:

As Lionsgate’s Executive VP Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Charlotte Koh,has pointed out, The Crow character and the original movie hold a special place in the heart of fans. The new movie aims to strike a chord with the audience, offering an authentic and visceral reinterpretation of the original’s emotional power and mythology.
The script, penned by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, bases itself on O’Barr’s original graphic novel while incorporating fresh elements to cater to modern sensibilities.
A trailer should be released soon – and when it is, there will undoubtedly be a big discussion. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. The Crow is set to hit theaters on June 7th.
