Stephen King fans are always eager for a new adaptation of the iconic author’s work. After all, many of his adaptations have become just as recognizable as the stories on which they’re based. Unfortunately one of those adaptations has yet to be released – and Stephen King has now shown support for the project, based  on one of his novels.

The highly-anticipated adaptation is one of many upcoming projects that seems to have been placed in limbo by Warner Bros. The studio was recently acquired by Discovery, turning the brand into Warner Bros Discovery, and much of the company has been reworked in the time since. Sadly, it’s unknown what exactly the studio plans on doing with the film.

The film was initially planned to be released in theaters. Though with its release date taken off the official calendar, it’s unknown if WBD still plans to release the film theatrically. Other recent reports have claimed that they might instead release Salem’s Lot via Max. Additionally, some fans believe the film might simply be used as a tax write-off like Batgirl or Scoob! Holiday Haunt.

Stephen King himself has seen the film, however, and he claims that it’s “quite good.” As such, he’s “not sure why WB is holding it back.” He also gives a brief description of the film that will excite fans:

“Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new SALEM’S LOT and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the f*cking things.”

It’s clear that King is just as frustrated as the rest of us regarding the Stephen King adaptation Salem’s Lot and its unclear future. Hopefully we’ll have an official announcement from Warner Bros regarding the status of the film in the near future. For now, however, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
