One of horror’s biggest franchises started with The Conjuring and its many spin-offs and sequels. The newer IP might be coming to an end sooner than later, however, as it’s been revealed that The Conjuring 4 is now intended to be the main franchise’s final movie.
As noted via THR, the film is being considered the “last ride” for the main series of flagship films. These films, of course, being led by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson. The two cast members have portrayed real-life paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren for several franchise films now.
According to the publication, however, this new film could be the end for their story. Of course, additional spin-offs featuring characters like The Nun and Annabelle could still be possible. But as far as the Conjuring title itself goes – this fourth film appears to be a proper ending.
Fortunately, fans will be excited to know that a familiar face will be returning to direct this final installment. Director Michael Chaves, who helmed both The Nun II and the most recent Conjuring film – The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – is said to be in talks to direct The Conjuring 4.
The plot details for the film are currently being kept under wraps. As mentioned, however, it’s expected to once again revolve around Vera Farmiga’s Lorraine Warren and Patrick Wilson’s Ed Warren. They’ve certainly built up some interesting plot possibilities between the events of the main film series, Annabelle Comes Home, and The Nun II, so we’ll have to see where it goes from here.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding The Conjuring 4 as we have them. It’s definitely sad to see the franchise’s main series come to an end, but it’s certainly had a great run and there’s no doubt more to come in some shape or form.
