Viewers are being surprised with another critically panned and forgotten movie that’s now making a comeback on Netflix. The streaming service has offered the opportunity for numerous films and shows that flopped upon release to find new audiences and new life.
Additionally, these movies often vary in age, quality, and origin. Sometimes it’s a schlocky horror movie from the 1980s. Other times it’s an international film that might’ve not found the proper audience upon release. This time, however, it’s a serial killer thriller from 2022.
It might be quite surprising to realize that was now two years ago. Nevertheless, enough time has passed for movie lovers to discover plenty of films and shows they’ve missed in that time. This seems to be the case with this particular film, which despite its low ratings, seems to have reached into Netflix’s Top 10.
At the time of this writing, the film Mindcage has somehow reached the number 10 spot on the service. Quite impressive considering the film has a 4.2 on IMDB and a 20% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. For those unfamiliar, here’s a brief synopsis:
“Detectives Jake Doyle and Mary Kelly seek the help of an incarcerated serial killer named The Artist when a copycat killer strikes. While Mary searches for clues in The Artist’s brilliant but twisted psyche, she and Jake are lured into a diabolical game of cat and mouse, racing against time to stay one step ahead of The Artist and his copycat.”
The film was directed by Mauro Borrelli with a screenplay by Reggie Keyohara III. The story for the film is credited to Borelli.
The cast includes Martin Lawrence, Melissa Roxburgh, John Malkovich, Aiden Turner, Jacob Grodnik, Chris Mullinax, Ritchie Montgomery, Kira Reed Lorsch, Jeremy Turner, Cassandra Gava, and Joshua Weatherby.
