Actor Mads Mikkelsen was cast in the upcoming Doctor Strange several months ago, and since then his character has been kept under wraps – until now.
Heroic Hollywood got a sneak peek at one of the toy sets promoting the film, and this one in particular reveals Mikkelsen will play a character named Kaecilius. Here’s the description for the play set:
“Marvel Minimates Series 70 Doctor Strange Movie 2-Pack Asst.
A Diamond Select Toys Release! The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now the next entry in the long-running Marvel Minimates line! Series 70 of Marvel Minimates mini-figures travels to the world of the Doctor Strange movie, with four different two-packs: Dr. Strange with The Ancient One, Mordo with Kaecilius, the specialty-exclusive Stephen Strange with Christine Palmer and the specialty-exclusive Wong & Zealot! Each 2-inch Minimates mini-figure features 14 points of articulation and fully interchangeable parts. Each two-pack is packaged in a full-color window box.”
In Marvel’s comics, Kaecilius is an agent of Baron Mordo. However, it’s currently unclear whether or not the film-version of Baron Mordo will be villainous in this entry and what their connection could be.
Per Marvel wiki:
Kaecilius was a disciple of Baron Mordo. He often served as field agent or deliverer of messages for Mordo. He accompanied Baron Mordo to Kamar-Taj in Tibet to kidnap the Ancient One. Doctor Strange took the Ancient One and escaped.[1] Kaecilius later hired a group of smugglers in Hong Kong to search for Doctor Strange.
Mordo sent Kaecilius to England to the estate of Sir Anthony Baskerville to capture Doctor Strange. Baron Mordo took mental possession of Kaecilius’ form to allow him to use powers granted by Dormammu power against Strange. Doctor Strange was able to free himself from his control and knocked him out. Doctor Strange then learned from his mind that it was Dormammu who was giving Mordo his added power.
Kaecilius informed Baron Mordo that they had detected the use of Doctor Strange’s spell in the temple of the Aged Genghis.
The toy set also confirms that Rachel McAdams will be playing Night Nurse – a character who has healed superheroes in the comics and played a role as Dr. Strange’s love interest.
As the character is described on Marvel wiki:
Linda Carter was born in Allentown, New York, as the daughter of a doctor who maintained his practice there. After graduating from medical school herself and becoming a registered nurse, Carter moved to New York City and began working at Metro-General Hospital with Christine Palmer and Georgia Jenkins. When she fell in love with and became engaged to the wealthy businessman Marshall Michaels, he gave her an ultimatum: marry him and leave nursing or stay at Metro-General. She chose to allow Michaels to leave and to continue pursuing her professional career. During her time at Metro-General, Carter demonstrated that her skills were not limited to nursing practice, but also included detective and investigative work.
At some point, Carter was rescued by a masked vigilante, and afterward decided to repay the super-hero community by providing its members with medical health care. To accomplish this, Carter assumed a secret identity of her own, calling herself “The Night Nurse,” and established a small private clinic hidden in Manhattan’s Chinatown on or near Orchard Street.
The plot for the film is as follows:
“After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but arrogant and conceited surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under her wing and trains him to defend the world against evil.”
Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, 2016.
