The introduction of streaming services has led to an increase in digital releases for film and television projects. Unfortunately, it’s also led to devastating removals, and now the host of a fan-favorite Disney Plus series has spoken out against one such removal.
Disney Plus has gone to great lengths to curate their streaming service and remove content from their platforms. In some instances, it’s to save money, and in others it’s a matter of rights issues.
Nevertheless, it’s always disappointing when one of your favorite shows – that aren’t available anywhere else – can no longer be accessed on the service you’re paying for. It’s one such reason that many consumers are eagerly supporting physical media instead.
In this specific scenario, however, Prop Culture host Dan Lanigan emphasized how upset he is by the removal. Lanigan hosted the series which explored the props and costumes from some of Disney’s most iconic movies. It was an effort to preserve the history of the brand – and, unfortunately, Disney chose not to preserve the series itself.
Lanigan expressed his disappointment with Disney’s decision on Facebook. In a group for “Movie Props,” a user asked if anyone else was upset that Disney removed the series from their streaming platform. Lanigan happened to reply in the comments which surprised plenty of group members:
“Thanks for the post, William!”, Lanigan begins. “I’m certainly upset that they removed it.”
He then shared in a separate comment why it makes no sense that Disney would remove the series:
“In the case of Prop Culture, it didn’t have any residual requirements outside of the short film clips, and some of the music used. PC was a very inexpensive show to keep on Disney+ (relatively speaking) compared to anything else out there, except for some documentary or game show style shows. I still don’t understand why they removed it, as it was great promotion for their older films.”
It’s definitely disappointing to see the removal of this Disney Plus series without any given reason. Of course, it could always come back, or Disney might find another distributor to handle the show. For now, however, we’ll have to see what happens.
