Fans have been eagerly waiting for the next installment in the Mad Max film franchise since Fury Road was released in 2015. Now, after a lengthy production period, the first trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga confirms that the movie is finally on the way.
Furiosa, a spin-off and prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, will further build upon George Miller’s iconic post-apocalyptic sci-fi franchise. The film series first began with Mad Max in 1979, followed by The Road Warrior in 1981, and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome in 1985.
The iconic brand then remained dormant until Fury Road was released in 2015. This particular film rejuvenated the franchise and introduced a new Max played by Tom Hardy. Furiosa was also introduced in this film, played by Charlize Theron, and she’ll now be played by Anya Taylor-Joy in the upcoming prequel.
Here’s the official trailer for George Miller’s Furiosa:
The official premise for the film is as follows:
“As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. While two Tyrants war for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland.”
George Miller directed the highly-anticipated Warner Bros. film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris.
In addition to Anya Taylor-Joy as the younger version of the titular character, taking over from Charlize Theron who delivered a terrific performance in Mad Max: Fury Road, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke also star in the highly-anticipated prequel.
