Fans may be disappointed to learn that a popular CBS television series is coming to an end. However, many fans would also agree that this may be a good thing – as the show was already coming to a natural conclusion point.
This particular series, a spin-off of the successful sitcom The Big Bang Theory, is none other than Young Sheldon. As such, this means that the series will be ending with its seventh season. As shared via Deadline, the 14-episode season will end with a one-hour series finale on Thursday, May 16.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, shared the following statement:
“As a prequel to one of the biggest comedies, Young Sheldon proved lightning can strike twice,” Reisenbach began. “It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought characters to life with unique heartfelt stories that drew audiences in from the start.”
She also expressed gratitude to the show’s creators, executive producers, and writers Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, in addition to Steve Holland:
“We extend a sincere thank you to executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland and the entire writing and producing teams for six wonderful seasons,” Reisenbach added. “We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving it a proper sendoff with the best episodes yet for their fans to enjoy.”
A final statement was released by Holland, Molaro, and Lorre:
“Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” they shared. “We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”
The CBS sitcom series Young Sheldon premiered in 2017 and served as an origin story for its titular character who first appeared in The Big Bang Theory. The adult version from that series was played by Jim Parsons, while the child version is portrayed by Iain Armitage.
