Streaming often offers a place for underappreciated films and television shows to make a comeback. A particular comic book movie trending on WBD‘s streaming service Max, however, already happens to be beloved by many other than its own creator.

Alan Moore created the V for Vendetta DC Vertigo comic book that paved the way for its 2006 film adaptation. Of course, fans know that there are some key differences between the comic and live-action film. Most of these fans are willing to set these differences aside, especially given the level of craftsmanship featured in the film.

Moore, however, is not. In fact, as noted in a 2017 article via Medium, Moore called the V for Vendetta movie adaptation “offensive” due to the differences:

“[The movie has been] turned into a Bush-era parable by people too timid to set a political satire in their own country. It’s a thwarted and frustrated and largely impotent American liberal fantasy of someone with American liberal values standing up against a state run by neoconservatives — which is not what the comic ‘V for Vendetta’ was about. It was about fascism, it was about anarchy, it was about England.”

Now, as shared via FlixPatrol, V for Vendetta is trending on Max at the time of this writing. The film has broken into the Top 10 titles on the streaming service, meaning that viewers are definitely more open to watching the adaptation than its own comic book creator.

Of course, that might not be surprising, especially given the following that V for Vendetta has established over the years. It’s become quite an inspirational film in that regard, whether Moore intended it or not, and the iconic Guy Fawkes mask has certainly made an impression on pop culture.

For now, if subscribers are willing, they can check out V for Vendetta for themselves while the comic book movie is streaming on Max.
