The Marvel Cinematic Universe is widely recognized for its vast continuity and attention to detail. Of course, with so many characters and projects, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of everything. This allowed for one major mistake in Avengers: Infinity War that Marvel Studios has now acknowledged.
As fans know, Avengers: Infinity War features the first time Thor meets the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s during this moment that the mistake occurs. Specifically when Thor mentions his age to Rocket Raccoon.
The age that he gives Rocket is “1,500 years old.” But this doesn’t exactly add up. After all, in the first Thor movie, Odin recounts the Battle of Tønsberg in 965 AD. Both Thor and Loki are shown to only be children during this time.
Now in the newly-released book Marvel Studios’ The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline, Marvel Studios admits that this is a mistake in Avengers: Infinity War. Miss Minutes offers her own explanation in the 2018 section of the book:
“Why, hello! Thor says he’s 1500 years old, but wasn’t he just a baby around 696 CE? I’d have an answer for y’all now, but Casey just spilled coffee all over the mainframe, bless his heart.”
It’s a humorous way to avoid the truth about Thor’s age, and it certainly keeps the door open for a sequel to better explain. Of course, as of this writing, there is no sequel to Thor: Love and Thunder greenlit. But fans are certainly hopeful that Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor will be making his way back to theaters sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, Loki Season 2 recently concluded, and there are plenty of possibilities to explore as Avengers: Secret Wars draws nearer. It’s certainly going to be a more complex universe to navigate in the coming years, but with Miss Minutes and the TVA now involved, we’ll hopefully get plenty of concrete and tongue-in-cheek answers to make sense of it all.
