Moviegoers recently experienced Chris Pratt’s voiceover talents as Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, now they’ll get to see him voice the iconic fictional cat Garfield in The Garfield Movie. Fans can get their first look at Chris Pratt in action with the all-new trailer for The Garfield Movie below.
Of course, this is far from the first feature-length movie based on the iconic cat from Jim Davis‘ comic strips. But it is the first theatrical film to be completely animated. And, as the trailer reveals, it looks like an interesting take on the material with very comic-accurate designs.
Though there seem to be some surprises still – such as Samuel L. Jackson voicing the character Vic, which appears to be Garfield’s long-lost father. This naturally leads Garfield into a surprising series of events, which along with Odie, will no doubt spell out disaster and hilarity.
Here’s the trailer for The Garfield Movie:
The logline for the film is as follows:
“Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.”
It’s definitely interesting to hear Chris Pratt‘s take on the character, whose tired, monotone voice has become quite iconic despite the several voice actors responsible over the years. It’s certainly difficult to read any of the popular comic strips by Jim Davis without that signature style.
Mark Dindal directed the film from a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan & Mark Torgove and David Reynolds.
In addition to Pratt and Jackson, the cast also includes Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang.
Fans will be able to see The Garfield Movie when it finally hits theaters on May 24, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
