Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel has become one of the MCU’s biggest players. As such, plenty of fans are excited to see where her story goes in The Marvels. On the other hand, plenty of Marvel fans have also been toxic towards Brie Larson, and now a report claims that she wants to quit the MCU as a result.
Brie Larson has faced backlash against her part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since she first appeared in the franchise. Now, as shared via The Watch podcast, a report claims that she wants to stop playing the part as a result. This is allegedly in spite of Marvel having big plans for the character.
Here’s what MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios author Joanna Robinson shared:
“Marvel Studios] put Brie Larson in [a prominent place in the MCU],” Robinson said. “I don’t know if Brie Larson was the wrong person for the role necessarily. But the toxic backlash means that Brie Larson doesn’t want to play Carol Danvers anymore.”
Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt. But it does seem to indicate that, at the very least, Brie Larson is tired of the backlash against her and her character. It’s possible that she could win fans over, especially if The Marvels ends up being a success. Though we’ve also seen how toxic the internet can be – so it’s just as possible that the toxicity won’t stop.
It’s certainly disappointing to see celebrities have to quit their jobs just to simply avoid the toxicity of the internet. But we’ll have to see how Larson feels especially once her next appearance is revealed in The Marvels this November.
Fans will be able to see The Marvels on November 10, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Brie Larson and Disney‘s Marvel Cinematic Universe as we have them.
