Brie Larson is set to reprise her role as Captain Marvel for the upcoming MCU movie The Marvels. Fans are ecstatic to revisit the character and see what cosmic adventures she has next. In the meantime, Marvel just dropped a bombshell regarding Captain Marvel’s age, and fans are shocked.
The revelation came in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, where Captain Marvel was grouped with two other beloved Marvel characters. “Proof: ‘Age is just a number,'” the caption for the post reads. Of course, fans already knew the ages of both Captain Marvel and Winter Soldier, which are the other two characters pictured.
It’s Captain Marvel, then, that might require some kind of explanation. As you can see below, the post claims that Captain Marvel is more than 60-years-old:

The issue is that fans have long suspected the character, otherwise known as Carol Danvers, would’ve been the same age as actress Brie Larson when introduced during the events of Captain Marvel. The film takes place in 1995, and given Larson’s age at the time, the character would’ve been about 28 and thus born around 1967.
If she were born in 1967, then, Captain Marvel’s age would be about 51 when Avengers: Endgame begins. By the time jump at the end of the film, she should only be about 56-years-old. Even still, if The Marvels takes place two years later, her character should only be around 58-years-old. Even if you add an extra two years and assume she’s a little older than Brie Larson was during the events of Captain Marvel – the math doesn’t add up. She shouldn’t be any older than 60-years-old, while Marvel claims she is.
It’s easy, then, to see why fans are confused in the comments of the post. Perhaps the full release of The Marvels on November 10, 2023 will answer those questions. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
