The Saw movie franchise has become recognized for spawning a large number of sequels over the years. As such, many fans have wondered if there would be additional movies released after Saw X. Especially with so many unfinished storylines. Now, according to the new film’s producers, there are indeed plans for more Saw sequels from Lionsgate.
This was confirmed by producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules who spoke with ComicBook.com. Of course, they note that Saw X will have to come out first because work on any additional sequels fully sets in. Nevertheless, with films like Jigsaw and Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which have yet to finish their respective storylines, there’s still plenty of potential to explore the franchise.
As shared by Koules:
“We’re kind of superstitious,” he begins. “We tend not to get too far ahead of ourselves. The movie’s going to be released in a few days. For us, we do have ideas for the next one, we haven’t put pent to paper. But this is his story, we really wanted it to be John Kramer’s story and tell a John Kramer story. So for the first 30 minutes of the movie, he’s John Kramer, you don’t have any hint of Jigsaw.”
It’s nice to know that not only can the franchise continue, but that they’re focused on telling the story of John Kramer for the time being. After all, he’s a key part of the franchise, and he deserves to have his story told with as much focus and time as it requires.
Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, will be directing this new installment of the franchise. He previously edited the first five Saw movies as well in addition to Jigsaw.
With Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith portraying their respective characters from the franchise, the film also includes newcomers Renata Vaca, Paulette Hernandez, Joshua Okamoto, Octavio Hinojosa, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, and Michael Beach.
This next installment in the Saw movie franchise, Saw X, is currently scheduled to be released this year on September 29, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional Saw updates as we have them.
