The Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly expanding to include Fox’s roster of X-Men characters. In the meantime, however, Marvel and Disney are had at work with a brand-new animated series, X-Men ’97, which follows the events of the classic animated series from the 90s. Now a new leak reveals the return of a rather beloved X-Men character in the new Marvel series.
As you can see below, a NYCC-exclusive Funko POP has surfaced online. The POP figure was made to tie-in with the upcoming animated show. Furthermore, it confirms the return of the Goblin Queen, otherwise known as Madelyne Pryor, who was a major character in Marvel’s comics.
The X-Men character never quite appeared in animated form before, which makes X-Men ’97 her first appearance in the medium. Fans of the comics will recall that, in addition to looking similar to Jean Grey, she turns out to be a clone of Jean altogether. Obviously this complicated history makes her an interesting choice for the series and fans will have to see how closely tied to the comics her animated appearance will be.
Here’s the Funko POP that reveals the return of the Marvel character:

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until the year 2024 to see the animated series. There’s still plenty left to be revealed about the series, including whether or not it will tie into the MCU, but it is expected to follow the style and narrative of the original 1990s animated series. The cast includes Lenore Zann as Rogue, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, George Buza as Beast, Chris Potter as Gambit, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Christopher Britton as Mister Sinister, and Alyson Court as Jubilee.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional X-Men ’97 and Marvel updates as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have more content from the highly-anticipated animated series in the near future.
