It’s been clear that DC adaptations would be going in a new direction with the newly-announced DCU. The new continuity, otherwise known as the DC Universe, is being spearheaded by producers James Gunn and Peter Safran. As such, it was expected that all-new films would replace past franchises. Though Gal Gadot now teases that a Wonder Woman 3 is in development for the DCU.
Fans thought that Gal Gadot’s take on the character was over with the announcement of the new continuity. Especially since Henry Cavill is being replaced as Superman and Ben Affleck is being replaced as Batman. Nevertheless, as Gal Gadot says while speaking with ComicBook.com, her time as Wonder Woman isn’t over.
Here’s what she shared:
“I love portraying Wonder Woman,” Gadot says. “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”
Of course, this also doesn’t explain much about how Wonder Woman 3 will fit in with the DCU. It’s entirely possible that it could take place outside of that continuity and within the preceding DCEU. But, if the studio is attempting to move forward from that timeline, it seems unlikely they’d take that direction.
Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see how James Gunn’s DCU unfolds. Especially as we haven’t yet entered the first chapter of films and shows. But it’s clear that possibilities are more or less endless for where the franchise goes from here. So hopefully Gal Gadot gets her chance to return as Wonder Woman for a Wonder Woman 3. And who knows what other previous cast members could reappear as part of the new plans.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Wonder Woman 3 as we have them. For now, it’s nice knowing the project isn’t completely off the table as was previously thought.
