Eli Roth‘s live-action adaptation of the Borderlands video game franchise is still on the way. In fact, it’s just been announced that the highly-anticipated Borderlands movie will now be hitting theaters in 2024.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting for the film adaptation since the project was first announced. Sadly, it seemed to be taking quite awhile behind-the-scenes with little information shared to fans. Now, as shared at this year’s Comic-Con, we can expect the film to hit theaters next summer.
Here’s a post shared by the Borderlands account on Twitter to accompany the announcement regarding the new 2024 release date:

Eli Roth directed the film which was written by Roth and Joe Crombie.
The cast of the film includes Jack Black as Claptrap, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, and Gina Gershon as Moxxi. Additionally, the film also features appearances from Edgar Ramirez, Janina Gavankar, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond, and Haley Bennett.
The synopsis for Borderlands has been released as follows:
“In the movie Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.”
It certainly sounds like an exciting take on the iconic video game franchise. There’s definitely plenty of potential to adapt the story for the big screen. For fans, they’ll just have to wait until next summer.
As mentioned above, fans can look forward to the film hitting theaters next year on August 9, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Borderlands updates as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have more glimpses at the highly-anticipated adaptation early next year.
