Fans are ecstatic for the upcoming movie Barbie starring Margot Robbie as the titular character. Of course, much of Robbie’s popularity skyrocketed following her role in the DCEU, and now it looks like there’s a Snyder Cut joke in Barbie.
The “Snyder Cut” refers to the initial version of Justice League which Zack Snyder shot. The film was ultimately finished and released under the directorial vision of Joss Whedon. Of course, fans famously petitioned for Snyder’s original cut to be released, and eventually it was.
Now, as noted below, it looks like Barbie takes the opportunity to poke fun at the Snyder Cut in a hilarious way with Margot Robbie. In fact, the joke also uses her co-star Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken in Barbie. Apparently Gosling was considered to play Joker alongside Robbie’s Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.
Here’s what was shared:
Apparently there’s a joke aimed at Warner Bros about the Snyder Cut in the Barbie film which has Margot Robbie who’s Harley in the Snyderverse and her partner Ken as Ryan Gosling who was originally considered for The Joker in Suicide Squad before Jared got it 😂 pic.twitter.com/xKn5Mz4F8B

It’s certainly a fun way to acknowledge the work of both stars, or in Gosling’s case, what could have been. It also emphasizes just what kind of humorous world the new film Barbie hopes to introduce. It’s clear why audiences are so eager to see it.
Barbie was directed by Greta Gerwig, who also co-wrote the film’s script with her partner Noah Baumbach. Margot Robbie will also produce the film via LuckyChap along with Tom Ackerley. Mattel’s Robbie Brenner and David Heyman for Heyday Films will also produce. LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz are attached to the project as executive producers.
In addition to Margot Robbie as the titular Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film’s ensemble cast also includes Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Hari Nef, and Will Ferrell.
Fans will be able to see Barbie on the big screen on July 21, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the film as we have them.
