The all-new DC shared universe, titled the DCU, is set to begin with Superman: Legacy. The film will introduce a new version of the titular character in addition to being a launchpad for other such superheroes to appear. Now it has revealed that one such superhero, the Green Lantern, will appear in the upcoming DCU film.
This exciting news comes via Vanity Fair. Interestingly, this actor has collaborated with writer and director James Gunn in the past. He first appeared in Gunn’s directorial debut, Slither, and he also worked with him on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Now the actor – Nathan Fillion – will bring his acting talents to the DCU as a Green Lantern.

Excitingly enough, this might actually pave the way for several Green Lantern characters to eventually appear in the DCU. Fillion’s Lantern is said to be Guy Gardner. Fans will know Gardner for being a memorable Lantern albeit not quite the main individual associated with the mantle. Rather, Hal Jordan and John Stewart tend to be the more popular characters to become Green Lanterns. As such, Fillion’s Gardner could merely set the stage for a more important Green Lantern project or appearance in the future.
In fact, Vanity Fair continues to report that a Green Lantern series is in development. The new series is expected to coincide with the DCU shared continuity and include storylines featuring Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Of course, we’ll just have to see how far Warner Bros Discovery gets with this newly-launched shared universe.
James Gunn will direct Superman: Legacy from a screenplay he wrote. Peter Safran will produce the film. The original Superman character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
David Corenswet will play the titular character, Superman aka Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane.
Fans can expect to see Superman: Legacy hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
