The Marvel Cinematic Universe is moving forward with the release of Secret Invasion on Disney Plus. However, it looks like one Captain Marvel star will be left behind, as Secret Invasion has recast their character.
Of course, this is far from the MCU’s first recast. And with the introducing of so many additional films and television shows, it can be tricky for an actor to have a free enough schedule to appear in everything. But for this particular Captain Marvel character, one that plays an important role in the show, it looks like Marvel expected their recast to go unnoticed.
The plot of Secret Invasion heavily revolves around the Skrulls which were introduced in Captain Marvel. One such Skrull, Soren, is married to fan-favorite character Talos. She was played by Sharon Blynn in both Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Now she’s been recast for Secret Invasion.
In fact, two new actresses portray the character in the newly-released Disney Plus series. She’s played by Kath Braithwaite as the Skrull version of her character, while Charlotte Baker plays her human disguise. It’s certainly an interesting change and it’s unknown why Blynn was replaced. Of course, scheduling conflicts are a good guess, and it’s possible that we’ll be seeing more of Soren as the series continues.
It’s worth mentioning that Soren was indeed killed off-screen during the MCU series. But it’s possible that flashback sequences will continue to reveal her story. Especially as the character is heavily tied to both Talos and G’iah.
The cast of Secret Invasion includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Ben Mendelsohn plays the Skrull character Talos. Cobie Smulders reprises their role as Maria Hill. Martin Freeman portrays Everett K. Ross while Don Cheadle plays James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine. The cast for the show also includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo.
