After decades in development hell, Beetlejuice 2 is finally happening. Furthermore, it’s been revealed that Beetlejuice 2 will be hitting theaters next year in 2024.
This news comes via Deadline, where it was revealed that Beetlejuice 2 will be released in September 2024. Additionally, they add that the film “is expected to go before the cameras in London tomorrow.” As such, it looks like the film is finally happening, which is surprising considering how many false stops we’ve had over the years.
Excitingly, they add that Tim Burton is set to direct the sequel. Michael Keaton is once again attached to play the titular character. Furthermore, Jenna Ortega is also set to star after numerous rumors claimed she was involved. It’s unknown at this time if Winona Ryder will also return for the film.
Mike Vukadinovich wrote the screenplay for the film. The earlier drafts of the script were penned by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith will both produce the sequel.
Plot details for the film are currently under wraps. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon. However, it’s exciting to see that the project is finally greenlit, and that even a release date is attached. It’s a surreal moment for fans of the film that have been waiting more than thirty years for a sequel to finally get off the ground.
With Tim Burton and Michael Keaton back, however, it’ll be great to see what they have cooked up this time around. Let’s hope that we have confirmation regarding the rest of the film’s cast soon.
The classic film previously spawned an animated series and a 2019 Broadway musical that became a major success itself.
Fans will finally be able to see Beetlejuice 2 in theaters on September 6, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them. Especially now that shooting is set to begin tomorrow in London.
