Marvel Studios has been on the move, turning superheroes into household names. They have a knack for finding the right actor or actress to bring their heroes and villains to life. Most recently, after Sony had their two attempts, the MCU did their thing with Spidey. It’s safe to say that Tom Holland was spot on. Also in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther made his silver screen debut. Chadwick Boseman knocked it out of the park. Not to mention, after his stellar job of breathing life into Ant-Man, Paul Rudd too brought his character to Civil War.
So who’s the next hero on the docket? Of course, we’ll see Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll do just as well as, if not better than, his fellow Marvelites. But there’s another hero that everyone has been clamoring for; who, like Black Panther, will make her silver screen debut. That hero is the Air Force pilot, Carol Danvers. Forever in the comics, she had been known as Ms. Marvel. Though recently, she had a promotion, and bumped the Kree warrior, Mar’Vell, out as Captain Marvel. Which, indeed, she’ll be the heroine of the flick with the same name.
So, who’ll follow Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Hayley Atwell, Mark Ruffalo, and Scarlet Johannsson, and so on, as the next great Marvel star? Well, according to Variety, Brie Larson is the front runner for Ms., excuse me, Captain, Danvers. Keep in mind, she is just the front runner, though. Nothing has been set in stone yet. But she is in final talks.
“Sources tell Variety Marvel is in early talks with Larson to play Captain Marvel in the studio’s standalone project. It is unknown where things stand in negotiations, but sources have told Variety that Larson is the first choice, and that she’s leaning toward playing the part…….Marvel had no comment on the story,” says the report.
Larson recently won Best Actress for a little film called Room. She has also been in 21 Jump Street and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. At only 26, she’s making quite the name for herself. She’s bound to give Elizabeth Olsen, one of Marvel’s newest heroines, a run for her money. Also, she’s 5’7, which will give Danvers the stature she needs.
Hopefully, Captain Marvel will pop up in one of the other Marvel movies before her own. Her movie is slated after Avengers: Infinity War Part I, so lets cross our fingers she’ll be in that. But if not, we’ll definitely see her when Captain Marvel flies into theaters March 8th, 2019.
