The newest installment of the Evil Dead film franchise is here. Of course, fans are no doubt eager to know what the future holds for the series. And, as a result, whether or not Evil Dead Rise contains a post-credits scene.
The 2013 film did include a brief post-credits scene. The clip included a cameo from Bruce Campbell, the actor for the franchise’s Ash Williams, who turns to the camera to say “Groovy.” It was an iconic moment and fans likely expected a similar sequence for Evil Dead Rise.
Now, while Bruce Campbell does have a sneaky cameo elsewhere in the film, it’s not at all a post-credits scene like the 2013 movie. Instead, Evil Dead Rise takes a somewhat more traditional approach. Though there is one addition worth mentioning.
As the film ends, Evil Dead Rise concludes with an explanation for the film’s opening which was actually a flashforward. This is followed by the initial end credits which utilizes illustrations from the film’s unique take on the Book of the Dead. At which point, a normal end credits crawl begins, and does so for several minutes. And while there is no extra scene at the end – there is a small detail that no doubt made some fans smile.
The end credits are followed by silence and then the buzzing of a fly. This refers back to a moment in the film where a fly crawls on Ellie’s eye. Of course, flies have their place throughout the entire franchise. Particularly during Evil Dead 2, when Henrietta tries to appear alive, and in Ash vs Evil Dead when Kelly’s mother does the same. Interestingly, it happens to Ellie when she appears to be dead.
Similarly, the buzzing sound could be interpreted as a hint that the Evil Dead franchise is far from dead. This new installment will no doubt breathe new life into the brand. So, while there isn’t a conventional post-credits scene, there’s certainly still a tease for fans in Evil Dead Rise.
