    ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ Reportedly Begins Production This June

    Fans have eagerly been awaiting for production to start on Mortal Kombat 2. The video game franchise was successfully re-adapted for the big screen with Mortal Kombat in 2021. As such, a sequel was imminent, and now production on Mortal Kombat 2 is slated to begin as soon as this June.

    This exciting news was shared via GeekVibesNation on Twitter. Though Warner Bros Discovery has yet to release an official statement, producer Todd Garner replied to the tweet – seemingly confirming it. Of course, if production begins in June, then it shouldn’t be much longer before we find out the truth. Furthermore, they tease that production will continue from June until September.

    Interestingly, they also claim that production will begin in Australia. It’s worth noting that the previous Mortal Kombat film was also shot on location in Australia. As such, it looks like the new sequel will be following in its predecessor’s footsteps. For fans that are hoping for a similarly successful adaptation – it looks like good news on that front.

    It’s currently unknown what exactly the plot for this new outing will be. But fans can rest assured that it will contain numerous iconic characters from the video game franchise. It’s also expected that it will retain all of the action and gore that made its predecessor such a hit with fans. Especially because the film helped bring back theatrical releases following the pandemic.

    Simon McQuoid is returning to direct the Mortal Kombat sequel, with Jeremy Slater having written the screenplay for the new film. The original video games that the films are based on were created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.
