Netflix had a massive hit with the South Korean series Squid Game. Now, however, it’s being said that Netflix wants an English-language remake of Squid Game for their streaming service.
This rumor comes via Jeff Sneider’s The Hot Mic podcast. Additionally, not only does he claim that Netflix wants a remake of Squid Game, but that they have a specific producer in mind for the project. Specifically, they add that Netflix wants David Fincher to “tackle this project badly.”
David Fincher’s portfolio features some major hits including Zodiac, The Social Network, and Gone Girl. Of course, he isn’t a stranger to working with Netflix. In fact, he’s already been involved with some of their biggest shows. This includes House of Cards, Mindhunter, and Love, Death & Robots. He also directed the Oscar nominated film Mank which was distributed by Netflix.
As such, it does make sense that Netflix would want David Fincher involved with Squid Game. On the other hand, fans might be perplexed by the existence of a remake. Especially as the original series is already so popular with subscribers. In fact, not only is there a second season of the show in the works, but there have been several spin-off projects as well. This includes a live-action reality series.
Of course, since Squid Game is such a success for the streaming service, it isn’t surprising that they’d want to expand it in every way possible. We’ve already seen this with Stranger Things. While that particular series is set to conclude soon – there are now two spin-off shows in development. Though since this is only a rumor for now – we’ll have to wait until Netflix announces any actual plans for a Squid Game remake.
