The Gremlins franchise has remained dormant for decades. Now it’s finally springing back to life for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. And, as you can see in the below teaser trailer, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai promises a much bigger universe for the titular creators to run amok in.
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will take viewers into the past for a prequel series set in 1920s Shanghai. It will explain how 10-year-old Sam Wing first met the Mogwai we know as Gizmo. This is a monumental moment for fans of the franchise. Not only because it promises a return to the world of Gremlins – but that it will answer many questions fans have had since 1984.

“A period piece set in 1920s Shanghai, the series reveals how a 10-year-old Sam Wing – who becomes the future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie – met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. They strike up a lifelong friendship as Wing attempts to return Gizmo to his family, encountering and sometimes battling colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore.
“Meanwhile, the two and street thief Elle are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
Luckily fans won’t have to wait much longer to finally see Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. The series is expected to be released on Max as soon as next month!
The voice cast of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai includes Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong, and Izaac Wang. Matthew Rhys, Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, and A.J. Locascio are also involved in addition to Sandra Oh, Bowen Yang, George Takei, and Zach Galligan. Fans will recall Galligan’s Billy Peltzer from the original live-action films. However, he’s expected to be playing a new character this time around.
