It might not be surprising seeing “Star Wars” and “meltdown” in the same sentence. However, it may be surprising to know that the most recent meltdowns were triggered by cameos from Lizzo and Jack Black in The Mandalorian.
The Star Wars franchise has branched out via numerous films and television shows under ownership of Disney. As such, we’ve seen a diverse range of reactions over the years. The Mandalorian happened to be a highlight of these reactions – with many fans praising the series. For its current season, however, fans seem to be less than pleased.
One such reason, as you can see below, is that The Mandalorian features cameos from Lizzo and Jack Black. The two celebrities play a pair of diplomatic characters in the series. And while some viewers enjoyed what they had to offer the galaxy far, far away… others had major issues with their inclusion. In fact, some believe it’s the end of Star Wars as we know it.
One user on Twitter claims that this means Star Wars “isn’t for us nerds anymore.” And, without addressing that Star Wars introduced celebrity cameos as soon as 1978 in The Star Wars Holiday Special, they continue their criticisms. “We who respect the lore & would be in tears after being cast in one of the movies or shows.”
“Star Wars is now for the popular kids who giggled & high-fived the bullies for stuffing you in your locker. It’s crashing and #Disney deserves it.”

As you can see from the discussion below, there are definitely a lot of strong feelings on the matter:
Fuck Lizzo, @DisneyPlus, Jack Black and @Disney for ruining the perfect franchise that is Star Wars and now Mandalorian. They had no business in that show. Ruined the entire show now. Everybody just wants to include everybody know a days just because. This is stupid. pic.twitter.com/Zg09S6vJPc

Lizzo and Jack black just ruined Star Wars for me. Will definitely not watch the mandalorian at all. That shit just pissed me off. I do not wanna see those fat fucking disgusting pigs butcher the only thing I have in this world.

Lizzo ruined Star Wars 😔

This is part of the reason I’ve checked out of Star Wars almost entirely. Disney has totally ruined the brand. I love Jack Black and Lizzo is pretty cool…but neither of them belong in the Star Wars universe. They’re too recognizable and it totally breaks any immersion.

Star Wars might truly be dying. There’s no fucking way I just watched Lizzo and Jack Black on my screen. Disney has completely 100% ruined this beloved franchise

My guy, the actors are just having fun

Wait, so you think Lizzo, a black woman who has been a classically trained flutist since she was 10 and Jack Black, a Jewish drama geek whose parents are both satellite engineers were the popular kids? https://t.co/AoRfX1WBwX
— shut up, josh (@ChiefJosheola) April 10, 2023
Imagine being so inside your own ass you think Lizzo and Jack Black were the popular kids back in school instead of desperately awkward dorks who persisted into adulthood to score big. https://t.co/DMfonYcFZL
— Patrick S. Tomlinson (@stealthygeek) April 10, 2023
Ah yes. Jack Black & Lizzo. 2 people who were definitely the popular kid bullies pushing the geeks into the locker. Gtfo of here man and go be miserable somewhere else. Just enjoy the product https://t.co/pnSGcfzgOY

Imagine thinking Lizzo and Jack Black were *checks notes* the popular kids who high fived bullies…
Get over yourself and stop taking people having fun so seriously. https://t.co/OW5tSW5M1S

Imagine being a gatekeeping shitbag like this
“Star Wars isn’t for us nerds anymore”
Yeah I’m sure Lizzo and Jack Black were the “popular jock kids” in high school.
You’re a moron, and you deserve the ratio. https://t.co/s0BE4EYqHj

Imagine saying Lizzo and Jack Black are the “popular kids.” 😂 They ARE the nerds.
Lizzo constantly gets put down for just being herself. And then Jack Black…is Jack Black. 😂 https://t.co/7aEH1Eg3y2

lizzo was literally a band geek in school. jack black is a fantasy nerd that plays d&d. if those are the popular kids shoving you in lockers i have no sympathy for you. 🤷♂️ im sorry that star wars is for everyone, but that aint going away. https://t.co/g9KhBXim6W

Being upset that Jack Black and Lizzo are in your franchise is wild. https://t.co/yc5ymz1kEW

worst episode of Mandalorian ever, just tired of these side story quests and cringe celebrity cameos
— The Cat who see weird tweets (@TheCatwhoseewe1) April 5, 2023
Episodes like this are fine if you have a 18-22 episode season…but not in an 8 episode season. Complete waste of time and money spent for this filler episode.
— Flyer75 (@Reformed75) April 5, 2023
Why? Feels so out of place. Even though two of these are great actors, with the other the worst acting ive seen in my life, why do this ? Bad idea. It’s just a moment for the writers to say, Look, Look who we got in the new episode. It makes no sense.
— GarethSmithPhotography (@GSmithPhotog) April 6, 2023
Sad part is that they probably spent so much fucking money on just this one episode. Better writing and directing with that budget should be god tier star wars content.
No wonder why their show gets like a small fraction of view numbers like GOT, TLOU, ect do.

Of course, as is the case with a franchise as big as Star Wars, there are many divisive responses. Although many users felt that this post is an example of overreacting – other Twitter users agreed. It’s clear that Star Wars has grown as a property over the years, but it’s always been a major hit globally. It seems like a stretch to assume that there should only be a niche audience for a franchise that’s known for changing the world of cinema as we know it.
In any case, Disney is undoubtedly showing no signs of stopping. The Star Wars franchise is bound to continue with the occasional celebrity cameo. If nothing else, it’s worth being grateful to have seen Christopher Lloyd appear in the same episode. Especially after the highlight that was hearing him say the name of a very beloved Star Wars villain in his iconic voice.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Star Wars updates as we have them.
