The John Wick film franchise currently consists of four feature films. The franchise will soon be expanding to include its first official spin-off, titled Ballerina, which has just been given a 2024 release date. This is exciting news for fans who just can’t get enough of the action-packed franchise.
Although the main four films so far focus on Keanu Reeves’ John Wick – a role he’ll be reprising for Ballerina – the new spin-off will star Ana de Armas. She’s already become a major name in Hollywood, having appeared in such hits as Blade Runner 2049, Knives Out, and Netflix’s fictionalized Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde. Now, as shared via Deadline, fans will see her tackle the role of the titular young assassin on June 7th, 2024.
As teased in the film’s official synopsis:
“Ballerina focuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.”
In addition to Ana de Armas, and the capacity in which Keanu Reeves will be appearing, the cast of Ballerina includes Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, and an appearance from late actor Lance Reddick. Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus also appear. The new spin-off is directed by Len Wiseman while Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3) wrote the project’s screenplay. Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and John Wick director Chad Stahelski are all attached as producers.
At this rate, it looks like the John Wick film franchise is just getting started. Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding this spin-off soon. For now, though, it looks like everything is coming together quite nicely for Ballerina and its summer 2024 release date.
Fans will be able to see the John Wick spin-off Ballerina in theaters on June 7, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the highly-anticipated action flick as we have them. For now, John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently playing in theaters.
