Kathy Griffin has remained a supporter of Amber Heard throughout Heard’s debacle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. As such, Griffin was displeased to see that Johnny Depp won the trial against Amber Heard. Furthermore, she’s now comparing Johnny Depp fans to QAnon supporters.
The comparisons were noted via Newsweek from a conversation between Griffin and NBC News tech and culture reporter Kat Tenbarge. Their conversation began after Griffin responded to the following tweet:
“Asking people to name their abusers in a post Johnny Depp trial world is actually insane.”
Kat Tenbarge shared the following statement in response:
“The backlash to tweets like this illustrates that people would rather believe they were right than accept reality,” Tenbarge begins. “The reality is, the way that trial was consumed and analyzed by the public hurts victims. If you can’t accept that you don’t live in reality.”
Tenbarge then brought QAnon into the mix:
“The QAnon vibes intensify when JD supporters have to reckon with the very real very immediate consequences of that trial.”
Kathy Griffin then agreed by comparing Johnny Depp fans with QAnon supporters:
“Interesting,” she begins. “It makes sense that JD stans would be QAnon’s, or at least agree with some of the QAnon nonsense. QAnon is a killer disease.”
QAnon is recognized as a conspiracy movement sparked by an anonymous online account. As such, Griffin’s decision to compare them with Johnny Depp fans is an interesting one. Of course, it’s far from the first time that she’s criticized Depp or his fans.
Kathy Griffin previously called Depp an “orange, fat, bloated boozebag” in her efforts to show support for Amber Heard. Though the majority of social media users continue to defend Depp and his place in the prior legal debacle. Of course, there are those who disagree, and Griffin happens to be one of them. As always, while the legal debacle is over, it looks like there will continue to be a divide between those who support Depp and those who support Heard.
