We’ve reached a point where streaming services seem to be removing shows and movies left and right. Now Netflix has made the decision to remove a major series from their platform. In fact, it just so happens to be their very first original animated series.
This will no doubt upset animation fans. We’ve already seen HBO Max remove a multitude of animated projects on the service. And, not to mention, they also cancelled several others in production. As such, this is yet another unfortunate bit of news.
As shared via website What’s On Netflix, their “first major Netflix Original kids animation series is set to leave the service in April 2023.” This series Netflix plans to remove just so happens to be Turbo FAST, an animated series based on the 2013 film Turbo. The show was one of the first Netflix Originals overall – so it certainly has an important history with the streaming service.
However, because the series was released as part of a partnership with DreamWorks Animation Television, NBC ultimately retains the broadcast rights to the property. Though it’s possible that Netflix could renew their licenses for these types of properties – it looks like their license for Turbo FAST will not be renewed. The streaming platform actually has a notification claiming that the last day to watch the series will be on April 1, 2023.
“While a removal date isn’t showing on the page itself, when you boot up any episode of the three seasons, a removal notice appears in the top left of the screen, saying your last day to watch on Netflix is April 1st, 2023.”
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Netflix and changes to their catalogue as we have them. It’s been quite some time since they released their first set of original programs. And with so many competing streaming services out there – it’s clear that they’re ready to make any changes necessary to keep up.
