After several delays, it seems like quite a long wait for the highly-anticipated follow-up The Marvels. The film is set to follow the storylines established in both the theatrical film Captain Marvel and the Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Now, as revealed in the film’s official trailer, we finally have our first major understanding of the plot for The Marvels.
Of course, as with all Marvel multimedia projects, there are certainly going to be some exciting surprises beyond the trailer. But this is an exciting look at what’s sure to be a rather different film than its predecessor, Captain Marvel, and the Ms. Marvel series. Both of which focused almost entirely on their respective titular characters. Now we’ll get to see Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau together on the big screen.
The official synopsis for the film reads:
In Marvel Studios’ ‘The Marvels,’ Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.
