Sony has been doing their best to expand the Resident Evil multimedia franchise. Now they have a brand-new animated film titled Resident: Evil Death Island on the way.
The new film was just announced with a brand-new teaser trailer. Fans won’t have long to wait either, as it’s scheduled to be released this Summer.
Interestingly, the film appears to take place in San Francisco with Alcatraz playing a major part in the story. As the Resident Evil franchise has expanded to include video games, live-action films, television shows, and animated projects, we’ve certainly seen an interesting number of interpretations. Hopefully this new animated film will be one that fans can really enjoy.
Here’s the official teaser for Resident Evil: Death Island:
The plot synopsis for the new film reads as follows:
“D.S.O. agent Leon S. Kennedy is on a mission to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from kidnappers, when a mysterious woman thwarts his pursuit. Meanwhile, B.S.A.A. agent Chris Redfield is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, where the cause of the infection cannot be identified. The only thing the victims have in common is that they all visited Alcatraz Island recently. Following that clue, Chris and his team head to the island, where a new horror awaits them.”
Resident Evil: Death Island was directed by Eiichiro Hasumi from a screenplay penned by Makoto Fukami.
The film is scheduled to be released this Summer worldwide (excluding Japan). Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on the Resident Evil franchise as we have them. The release of this new film follows the debut of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. Infinite Darkness was a 2021 attempt to tell Leon’s story in between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. Hopefully this new outing is more of a hit with fans than its predecessor. As always, we’ll just have to see what happens.
