Ari Aster’s next effort from A24 is coming soon .The first trailer for the film, titled Beau is Afraid, teases a truly bizarre and over-the-top experience. And, for those who love the director, they no doubt know it’ll be something special. As you can see below, however, Beau is Afraid has also received its first rating from the MPAA – and the film has been Rated “R.”
This might not be surprising for those familiar with Aster’s work. Especially after seeing some of the content on display in the trailer. However, it could still be a surprising description for some.
It looks like Beau is Afraid will have a strong emphasis on “strong violent content” and “graphic nudity” among other such elements. Here’s the full rating description for why Beau is Afraid has been Rated “R”:
“Strong violent content, sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and language.”
Of course, with the film being described as a “nightmare comedy,” it’ll be interesting to see how these aspects fit into the film. It doesn’t seem to be as serious as his past horror efforts, Hereditary and Midsommar, so fans will have to wait for the finished film. But between this rating and the recently-released trailer, it will certainly be a film worth keeping an eye on. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon.
Here’s what we do know about the plot of the film:
“A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer/director Ari Aster.”
The upcoming surrealist comedy horror film was both written and directed by Ari Aster.
The cast, led by Joaquin Phoenix, includes Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Denis Ménochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, Parker Posey, and Patti LuPone.
Fans will be able to see Beau is Afraid on April 21, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the film and Ari Aster’s other projects as we have them.
