Now that The Walking Dead has officially concluded, it’s been revealed that the first spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead is likewise coming to an end. AMC has announced that the series will end with its upcoming eighth season.
As noted via THR, this news comes directly from AMC through their TCA press tour. Fans of the spin-off series will no doubt be disappointed that it’s coming to an end. Especially with the original series having concluded late last year.
However, AMC Studios and AMC Networks entertainment president Dan McDermott did have a positive statement to add. He reminded fans that there are still several other spin-off shows on the way.
Here’s what he had to share:
“It’s a truly exciting year for The Walking Dead Universe, as we conclude an epic journey on Fear the Walking Dead, which became one of the most successful shows in the history of cable television,” he stated.
On the bright side, with another season on the way, it should give Fear the Walking Dead fans enough closure. The first part of the eighth season is currently scheduled to be released from May until June. The next section of episodes will be released towards the end of the year.
Overall, AMC seems keen to conclude both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead to make room for their future spin-off shows. They have both The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City on the way. One of the series will focus on the titular Daryl Dixon, while the other focuses on Negan and Maggie in New York City. Additionally, there will be a spin-off series featuring both Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira’s Michonne on the way.
